Gopal, Ruiz Honored as Legislators of the Year at New Jersey Chamber of Commerce Legislative and Business Awards Reception

Trenton – Senator Vin Gopal and Senator M. Teresa Ruiz yesterday were awarded the title of Legislators of the Year by the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce (NJCC) at their 2021 State Chamber Legislative and Business Awards Reception.

Senator Gopal was selected for his continued support of the business community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the NJCC recognized Senator Gopal for his assistance promoting economic development, which includes serving on the Board of the Northern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce and formerly serving as president of the Hazlet Township Business Owners Association.

“It was an honor to be named one of the Legislators of the Year by the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce,” said Senator Gopal (D-Monmouth). “As a legislator, one of our many jobs is to help advance and improve the lives of the people we represent. Going forward, I hope to continue to help New Jerseyans throughout the state, especially as we work to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The NJCC highlighted Senator Ruiz’s advocacy to improve education and workforce development. The group also acknowledged her chair position of the Senate Education Committee and her membership of both the Budget and Appropriations Committee and the Higher Education Committee, with her work during the budget process being influential in securing funding for child care, as well as the State Chamber Foundation’s Jobs for America’s Graduates program.

“It’s always an honor to be recognized for the work that I do, on behalf of New Jersey residents. My commitment to improving education, ensuring families have access to adequate and affordable childcare, and expanding economic opportunities for traditionally disadvantaged populations is what drives me to get the job done,” said Senator Ruiz (D-Essex). “I want to thank the State Chamber of Commerce for this prestigious award and recognition of my legislative accomplishments. I will continue to stay true to my commitment to serve the State of New Jersey.”

Since 1996, the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce has recognized outstanding state legislators and proactive business leaders for the work they do to ensure New Jersey is business friendly, economically successful and a great place to live and work.
