Senator Vin Gopal, Assemblyman Eric Houghtaling and Assemblywoman Joann Downey are pleased to announce the Princess Prom Project is back for the third year.
The expenses related to prom can add up quickly, especially for a family living on a tight budget. The Princess Prom Project works to alleviate a major expense by providing local high school students with a dress and accessories to ensure every student has the opportunity to enjoy prom.
“Prom shouldn’t be a privilege reserved only for those who can afford it,” said Senator Vin Gopal. “Everyone deserves to be a part of this special evening where they look and feel their best. We feel extremely lucky that we can help make that dream a reality for so many students within our district. We encourage anyone with a formal dress they no longer wear to donate it to this good cause. Through that simple act, you can help make a fairy tale evening a reality for a local high school girl.”
“Serving the people of District 11 is our primary focus. If we can help alleviate the burden of prom-related expenses for families who have to live by a tight budget, we are more than happy to do that,” said Assemblyman Eric Houghtaling. “We have seen an outpouring of support from our community, with dozens of gowns having been dropped off already. If you have a gown or cocktail dress you no longer wear, please consider donating it to the Princess Prom Project.”
“Prom dresses can cost hundreds of dollars - an expense that is simply out of reach for many local families. But we don’t believe that a price tag should stand between a young woman and prom night,” said Assemblywoman Joann Downey. “Every student deserves a magical night where they look and feel like a princess. Through the Princess Prom Project, we can make that dream come true and there is no greater feeling for us than that. Please, if you have a spare dress, a clutch or a necklace that you no longer wear, donate it and make a young girl’s prom dreams come true.”
Girls in need of a prom dress can choose a free gown from a large selection during a series of Shopping Parties at the District 11 Legislative Office in Ocean Township. We are happy to be able to help out. Appointments can be made by calling the office at (732) 695-3371. Busy schedules can be accommodated.
Families who would like to support the Princess Prom Project can do so by donating gently-used formal or cocktail dresses to add to the current collection of dresses. Dresses of any size in good condition that have been previously cleaned will be accepted. Accessories, purses, and jewelry to help complete the perfect prom ensemble are also welcomed.
